Not only is 'Abiqua Drinking Gourd' deeply cupped, but it also has very thick, textured leaves. All of these characteristics make for an excellent specimen plant! As Zilis says in his Hostapedia, "it sets the standard for cupping in hostas, a trait enhanced by its large size, heavy corrugation, and rich blue-green color." Hosta of the Year 2014.

What a showy hosta
My property is largely ledge with a few specks of dirt on top so many of my hostas are in pots. The Abiqua Drinking Gourd is BEAUTIFUL in a pot and, even in the back row, it commands the attention of anyone who sees it. I got a starter last year from Hostas Direct and it is already full and fabulous.

Lovely color and shape
A frosty blue hue on most interesting shape leaves. This plant is a vigorous grower yet when it reaches it's stated size it stays that size. Be careful how it is sited as it collects anything and everything.

Didn't realize star ratings went up to 5...
I didn't realize the star ratings went up to five (only showed up to three on my mobile device) so had to come back to give full five stars! Great plant!

All around great plant
For some reason I held off for a long time on buying an Abiqua Drinking Gourd plant, but I am so happy I finally did!

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of first year growth--when other cultivars were still itty bitty in comparison--and the great plant form and color. The leaf shape is very distinct and stands out in the landscape. Really, a great addition to any garden!
