Mini Hostas for Small Spaces
Mini hostas are some of the most popular hostas we sell. To see the over 40 mini hosta varieties we offer, check our Mini hostas for sale. The American Hosta Society has recently changed the standards for mini hostas, saying that the term "dwarf hosta" has been discontinued and replaced with "mini hosta". The AHS does not allow a hosta to be considered a mini hosta unless the leaf size is smaller than 6 square inches. This means that hostas that are commonly regarded as minis by clump size are disqualified by leaf size.

Gardening with Mini Hostas
Mini hostas can have the same great characteristics as larger hostas, like variegation and sun resistance. Their tiny size makes them versatile!
- Mini hostas do well in pots or containers. (They still need to be overwintered like any hosta.)
- Small open spaces in ornamental gardens or around a specimen plant are ways to use mini hostas as accessory plants.
- Mini hostas should always be placed in front of larger hostas in a garden.
- Use mini hostas in rows or pots by a garden bench or patio so you can see them up close.
Mini hostas have the least impact when placed directly next to large hostas. For this reason, many hosta enthusiasts create mini hosta gardens or incorporate them into fairy gardens or garden railroads.
