Vein pairs are important in that they provide one additional way to try to identify a hosta. Veins are not always consistent from hosta to hosta – even within the same cultivar, but in the vast majority of cases they are. Thus, if you lost a hosta plant marker and are trying to figure out what it is, determining the vein count of the missing hosta and then using that as a search criteria can help narrow your search.
