Leaf Size
Hosta leaves come in a wide range of shapes which makes them fun to
collect and also provides different contrasts in your garden.
- Broadly ovate:
- Cordate: heart-shaped leaf with a pointed tip and large round
protrusions separated by the petiole
- Elliptical: long ovular shaped leaves with a slightly pointed tip
- Fernlike: just to keep us on our toes a new hosta has come on the
market that resembles the Hart's Tongue Fern with erect leaves. It is named
H. 'Hart's Tongue.” With hybridizing progressing as it does we can expect to
see more of this feature
- Lance: the American Hosta Society defines this as “having a narrow
pointed leaf tip and leaf blade width less than half the length of the
blade”
- Ovate: leafs that are more egg shaped
- Round: leafs that are more round in shape
- Strap: leafs that are long and extremely narrow
