Growth Rate

Hostas plants evolved from about 40 or so “species” plants in east Asia; a few in China and Korea but mostly in various parts of Japan. These “species” plants had different genetic characteristics that have been passed on to their “offspring” – or “cultivars.” If all of the growing conditions were exactly the same for a comparative study, some hostas multiply faster than others. And, some hostas prefer certain growing conditions different than others – more sun, more shade, less or more humidity, and more. The common standard we use for growth rate is:
